Palazzo Castro Grimaldi is located on Corso San Giorgio, in the heart of baroque old town (UNESCO World Heritage). It is possible to admire from each side of the building a different view of the city: the imposing cathedral, the Jewish quarter with its small houses climbed on the hill, and all the buildings that from Modica Alta end up on Modica Bassa.

What makes the first floor of the villa unique is the authenticity of its halls, dining rooms and bedrooms. Since 1903 the interior has not been changed. Its furniture, walls and frescos are the same and were never retouched. The signs of the times have not been deleted, so as to preserve fragments of Sicilian life and culture belonging to a foregone past intact.

The style of the interior is typical of the villas of the nobility built between the end of the eighteenth and the beginning of the nineteenth centuries.

  • Scopri di più...

The best local artisans created sumptuous detail and decoration in the shape of landscape frescos, magnificent satin wallpaper, vases and preciously manufactured furnishings from Caltagirone that provide the rooms with the unmistakable taste of the local nobility.

All of this makes the Palazzo an ideal setting for private parties, exclusive dinners but also photographic and video shootings. In fact, Palazzo Castro Grimaldi was the set of some of the scenes of the renowned television series “Il commissario Montalbano”.

Only the first floor (piano nobile) is for rent. The larger part of the building cannot be visited as it is still in need of restoration, which the activities of the Palazzo will help to realize.

Palazzo Castro Grimaldi is available for several services:

  • Guided tours: a professional guide and expert in local history will accompany the guests in a tour through the halls where cavaliere Francesco Castro and his wife Donna Grazietta Grimaldi dwelled to reach the terrace and delight in the view of Duomo di San Giorgio and the whole of Modica. During the tour the guests will be entertained with a richness of anecdotes and curiosities as well as being able to breath in the atmosphere of the three families that inhabited the villa. Tours may be booked for groups of 5 people or over.
